Cullen

Cullen is a small town on the Moray Firth on the north east coast of Scotland, between Lossiemouth and Macduff.
One of its most scenic spots is the stunning railway viaduct which runs across the coastal edge of the town.
For many years when the summer camp was held at Portknockie, Cullen was very much the centre of 278 activities. The Baker was visited by the Quarternaster every day to get rolls for breakfast and cakes for supper. (The QM always had an early rise.) The chip shop was a firm favourite in the evenings and the many gift and book shops were visited regularly.
It was common too, to visit the Old Kirk at Cullen on one of the two Sunday parades. The Company normally mustered at the square and marched up the steep hill to the church - quite a treck.
The very challenging golf course runs along the cliffside, and many budding golfers lost a few balls there. It wasn't uncommon to be walking along the beach when a shout of "fore" would coincide with a ball thudding nearby.
The very picturesque Cullen Bay hotel sits at the top of the cliffs looking across the bay. It is well known that one year Richard Shuttleworth, walked in with a towel under his arm and headed straight for a bathroom to settle down to a nice warm bath - rather a luxury amidst a two-week camp.
